When I started this blog, I began by talking about the Highs and Lows of Instagram and short form content. In 2026, it is still an addictive platform that feels trend driven and over saturated, but is still a great affordable way to get your work seen, and to connect with others. As an artist working on my own, it’s a challenge to balance self promotion, creating work and tackling the business of Illustration. We need to find a way to filter out the short lived trends, and instead create meaningful content that feeds a healthier algorithm. My goal this year is to continue improving my relationship with Short Form content in a way that feels in-keeping with my brand values, and has an emphasis on Storytelling.

What are the reasons behind creating more content, besides trying to boost numbers?


In order to create a good Instagram account, you need to clearly tell the your brand message/values. Good storytelling is key as it encourages people to come back or follow along for updates. Think about what makes your work unique, what makes you unique, and how this influences the work you do.

I created a table that uses Four Core Themes/Content Techniques to help generate content that is useful in telling the brand story. It can be helpful to look at accounts that inspire you, but think carefully about what specific techniques they do to tell their story - how could you apply this differently to your own work?
